@godlesscommie: I picked up a prescription today for perimenopause at the @Walgreens on Matilda & Mockingbird in Dallas. Before I could leave, I was asked if I was pregnant. That didn’t sit right with me. This medication was prescribed by my physician after evaluating my medical history and determining it was the appropriate treatment. While pharmacists absolutely play an important role in making sure medications are dispensed safely, I don’t think patients should feel like they have to disclose or defend their private medical history at the pharmacy counter. There are respectful ways to ensure medication safety without making patients feel like they’re being second-guessed or asked to explain decisions that have already been made between them and their doctor. #dfw #menopause #boundaries

They ask you that because you should not be taking estrogen and progesterone while pregnant unless explicitly prescribed by your OB. So, if you’re pregnant, think that you could be, or are trying to get pregnant, they want you to be safe and confirm with the prescribing doctor that this is okay to take.

That CVS location is the worst. I switched locations and haven't had a problem since

I was on it for a year before getting that question at Walgreen’s. I switched to a different Walgreen’s for other reasons and haven’t gotten the question again. I think it depends on how awful the local pharmacist is. (I then switched to express scripts so I could get three months at a time to avoid the shortage. They’ve never asked either.)

Your response was so polite and accurate. If that happened to me I would probably embarrass myself by having an absolute freaking breakdown.

They're literally not. I love my pharmacist ❤️I had my gallbladder out 1 month after having my 2nd baby and she fulled my pain meds. She asked my husband if i was still breastfeeding because i wouldn't be able to if it took the strong pain meds. Pharmacists look out for you because drs overprescribe sometimes and different meds can conflict with each other. it's not that deep.

Honey. Your doctor is not a drug expert. A pharmacist is. That is literally why they went to school. They see mistakes by your doctor everyday. They are trying to keep you safe. They aren’t just people who put pills in a bottle. Do you know how many doctors wrote wrong scripts everyday? You’re making it a big thing out of this is ridiculous. Bless your heart!
