The Garden of Eden, when you read the Bible in it's ancient near eastern context was sacred space. It was God’s first Temple on Earth that predates the first Jewish Temple.
In the Jewish Temple, only the High Priest could enter the Holy of Holies, the holiest room of the Temple once a year on the Yom Kippur. And no one could directly touch the Ark of the Covenant or else they would die because of their sinful nature interacting with that magnitude of God's Kavod(weighty manifest presense, separate from God’s omnipresence).
Similarly, The Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil most likely wasnt an evil tree. It might have been one of the most sacred objects in The Garden. God was likely intending for them to eventually partake since Adam and Eve were God's first human priests. However, they partook when God told them specifically not to partake and that was their sin that led to Satan using their sin as legal grounds to usurp authority over the Earth and bring about death to humanity.
The Lord Jesus when dying on a cross, because he never sinned, took our sin upon himself. That satisfied God’s justice so we could be legally cleared of the charges against us, and it removed Satan's legal rights over the Earth because of our sin. Then when God the Father physically raised Jesus from the dead, it proved that Jesus was victorious over the enemy. When Christ died, the veil in the Jewish Temple, blocking the Holy of Holies off was torn, signifying we all have free acess to God now.
Therefore, if you choose to trust in The Lord Jesus to personally save you, he saves you. You are made spiritually alive, your spirit joins with God’s Spirit, and you become a citizen of Heaven freed from slavery to Satan.
Right now, Satan and the Fallen Angels still wreck havoc over the Earth, but its more like they have an eviction notice knowing their time is running out. Soon Jesus will physically return and reign.
