@babsrudlin: Day 4: Author Red Flags 🚩✨ We all have them! The habits, quirks, and writing obsessions that our readers and friends kindly tolerate (or laugh at). Here are a few of my author red flags: 🚩 The obsessive need to edit every chapter the moment it’s written. I simply cannot move on to chapter two until chapter one is polished, purely so I can eventually read the finished book without wanting to shred it line by line on the first read-through. 🚩 Compulsive world-building. I will spend three days working out the ancient lore, regional climate, and precise cultural traditions of a fictional realm before I’ve even finished the first act. 🚩 Animals ALWAYS get top billing. If there’s a dog or a mythical creature in the scene, they will almost certainly steal the spotlight—and usually have the best dialogue or instincts. 🚩 Drafting with tea and sheer willpower. My plot holes are solved almost exclusively by staring into the middle distance with a mug in hand, waiting for the dark twists to reveal themselves. 🚩 The extreme audio contrast. I need total, uninterrupted silence to write a single word of first-draft text... but the moment I switch to editing, I blare country music at top volume to really connect with the emotions.
