She didn't lie about being mugged, she was mugged. in her report to police she listed the stolen items which included her work phone. About 8 months later she actually found the phone in her house, turned it on and that signalled to the police that it had been used, they were tracking it. She didn't report the fact she had found it to the police and her solicitor advised her to admit she had misrepresented the stolen items.

Haigs fraud conviction 10 years ago was because she had a bag stolen, declared that her work phone had been stolen, she later found it but didn't declare that it was found. It's not quite at the same level as farages £5 mill or his donations from a convicted fraudster who was caught in a sting operation agreeing to launder money for drug traffickers
