You are wrong on gear L and 2.That is an automatic vehicle no need to change gears whether going up hill or down hill, the vehicle changes gears automatically. L and 2 is used for overtaking it prevents the vehicle front shifting to a higher gear, which wound slow down the vehicle,making it difficult to overtake. Also when going on a long downhill stretch, you need to lower the gears to prevent brake wear.
