An emotional breakdown after yet another desperate call to a medical professional begging for answers. All I want are answers here at HOME, using the insurance I work so hard to have. Instead, every “answer” seems to create 10 more questions. We wait weeks for specialists, only to be sent to someone else… and eventually sent right back to specialists we started with. This was right after an ENT told me that if Oscar were neurotypical, they’d remove his tonsils but because he is severely autistic, they don’t know if they can find a surgeon willing to take his case. He hasn’t been able to swallow his own saliva since MAY. What kind of quality of life is that? Our home, furniture, clothes, blankets, walls EVERYTHING is constantly covered in saliva and mucus. We bathe him 2x+ a day, constantly redirect him to cups, puke bags, bibs, trashes, toilets, etc, and still can’t keep up. The professionals see an appointment where it seems problematic. But they don’t see the full picture. The view we get front row to, Oscar’s discomfort, the isolation because we don’t want anyone to see how bad it is, the constant cleanup, the therapy struggles because techs don’t want his case, or how exhausting it is to keep begging professionals to help your child. We live this every single day. Even more so now that the system has broken me, I’ve got nothing to lose, & I’m the only one who’s going to get Oscar what he deserves from these so called medical professionals. I just want someone to care enough to help him. #severeautism #medicalmom #specialneedsmom #caregiver #caregiversupport
