@evehogban: The natural hair community really made us believe that heat was bad for natural hair. I don’t think heat was the problem. The real problem was excessive or repeated use of HIGH heat with no protection given to the hair strands before applying the heat. I am someone who has tasted Blowdrying my hair consistently and allowing the hair air dry consistently and I personally prefer blowdrying. In fact, blowdrying has saved me more than I thought it would. Ever since I started blowdrying, instead of waiting up to 48 hours for my hair to completely air dry, the hair dries quicker, my scalp no longer itches, I don’t experience frizz too much and single strand knots have also reduced. The biggest problem that made me start blowdrying was that itchy scalp. While blowdrying is not inherently bad, how you prep your hair before blowdrying is important too. Make sure you wash, condition, moisturize properly. And don’t forget to use a heat protectant to protect your hair from that exposure.
