I think if he was disrespectful, you spank him on the butt. but if he's handicapped (developmentally delayed) spanking a child who doesn't understand is not ok. there's different punishments such as taking away his favorite to or not buying him his favorite treat. let him have his tantrum in the store and ignore it. I know people will stare and say you're child is undisciplined making this a double edged sword, but we don't know how delayed he is. as witnesses we also have to be careful.
but the closed fist?? oof! not a little tap on the mouth. it would have been better to tell the truth.
we become even more engaged because we are impressionable and the language used to describe the situation (brutally struck, swelling, etc.) remember it's a commentator. I'm not condoning what she did because I think it was wrong, but there is a way to enrage the public even more by using psychology the convince people to react. that's why these videos thrive. I don't want to support media, but I'm also an advocate for children with special needs. I have a sister with special needs and I dont think my mother ever spanked her. it doesn't make sense to spanking a child who not only is handicapped but clearly afraid of you.

I have a sister with special needs (and have also nannied children with special needs). I dont think our mother ever spanked her. it doesn't make sense to spank a child who is not only handicapped but clearly afraid of you and incapable of changing. its a moot point. love does greater things than fear.

what made the assault "worse" is that he is disabled. but to smack your child for being disrespectful is a lesser concern. children are getting worse due to lack of discipline. THAT SAID, you NEVER hit a disable child. they do but and cannot know better and it's or job to redirect their behavior. some children need a spanking, but special needs children? never. there's a huge difference between snacking your child and abusing them, but there's a line. I think this is the line.
