I followed Larry Burkett before Dave Ramsey. Dave is definitely more big business. I have to do what works for me. I’m much more frugal, now that I have retired. I’m comfortable being debt free.

DR stresses credit cards because a lot of people don’t have control.

I listen to Dave Ramsey religiously… I’m doing debt avalanche over debt snowball. I’m still motivated and I’m 1.5 years in

People that use credit cards spend on average 11% more than they would if they were strictly using cash or debit.. that totally trumps the 4% cash back. You’d have to spend $100,000 to get $4,000 back.. it’s not worth it. That’s Dave’s whole point with CCs.

Dave is a plan when you have no plan. If you are following 80% of it, it’s better than staying lost, giving up, and working until you die.

speaking of Dave Ramsey. I use his app but I have a bank account for EVERY bill and only the money for that bill goes into and out of that account. on the app its counting it as I paid it from my main account and then paid it again from the bill account. should I just keep my main account linked so when it shows I transfered it should I count that as my "Payment" this is driving me nuts

I’m not a DR fan. Too restrictive. I’m 64 and I want to spend my years doing what I want. Don’t know how many years I have. And I live alone. Love it.😍

Same. We did things out of order but the result the same. We use credit not debit cards. We pay in full every Friday. We never buy extended warranties but my sons are certified auto mechanics and auto body.

Dave was my gateway to the financial world 😆 i an SO BORING and spend a lot of time tinkering the budget, tracking our retirement - my fave hobbies 😆 i think people misjudge him - i think while people can be successful following his teachings to a T, its all about discipline. When you learn how debt can be harmful, you spend less on credit cards. Hed say no credit cards, but if you only buy what you can pay off, stay in your budget… get those points 😆😆

I agree with the way you are doing your finances. I believe you have to do what works for you. It’s good to have guidelines to refer to, but each individual situation is a little different. On any of the trucks we’ve purchased for my husband we always get an extended warranty on it. I don’t know what he does to a truck, but we always have issues that that Warranty has saved us with transmissions and several other things. I work from home and don’t drive that often so I don’t put one on mine. Right now I’m driving a 2013 car and I’ve only had regular maintenance items done to it. I love your content.

My Cousin went through Dave Ramsey and feels similar to you. She said it was a great program, but not everything works for everybody. Sometimes you have to cherry pick things that work for you and what you are doing and your goals

Everything in moderation. I got myself out of 65,000 credit card debt about 20 years ago,,no help from Dave or anyone else, just self discipline. Now i pay everything the day the bill comes, way before the due date. My Fico score is 830 and i save about $4,000 a month from my retirement income (pension and SS). And i fly business class to Paris at least once a year for at least three weeks. Priorities—-It can be done.
