He left behind a young wife and a young child. On the evening of Friday 31 July 2026, 30-year-old Kennedy Kibet Ngeno from Roret, Kericho, was in Nairobi. He spent time with relatives in Uthiru, went out drinking with friends, then headed to Pipeline in a separate car. Around 4:30 a.m. on Saturday near Nyayo Stadium on Mombasa Road, a Suzuki taxi driven by 24-year-old Emmanuel Githua Kiburi hit the relatives’ vehicle from behind. They stopped. The driver smashed their windscreen. They drove a short distance and called Kennedy. He arrived. CCTV shows the taxi driver filming the scene with his phone. The group objects. Someone tries to slap or snatch the phone. A fight breaks out with several of them against him. He goes back to his car, pulls a sharp object, stabs one person, then chases Kennedy—who had moved away—and stabs him multiple times in the chest. Kennedy collapses. The driver films the end saying he was attacked and acted in self-defence, then drives off slowly. Bystanders put Kennedy in a car. They took him to Mbagathi, then Kenyatta National Hospital. He was dead on arrival. Post-mortem: about five stab wounds plus cuts on the hands, one through the heart. Weapon never recovered. Another person was injured. The group had been drinking. CCTV interpretations say the alcohol fuelled their aggression in the phone fight and the group attack, and that the driver was outnumbered. Family say the driver started it by smashing the windscreen and then stabbed Kennedy. No official toxicology has been released. His wife Dorcas said he was the family’s breadwinner and asked for justice. She posted: “Already missing him 😭💔, my fiancée. even in death I still love you. RIP my love 😘” The driver’s lawyer says he reported the incident himself, was outnumbered, and acted in self-defence. Makadara DCI arrested him on a murder charge. The vehicle was recovered. He was due in court. NOTE.
