Internship over grades 100000%. I graduated with a 3.0 had multiple full time offers when I graduated EE because I had internships. Bonus points if you can hold conversations and sre pleasant to be around

I had a guy in our group project for a patent class. We had a great idea to submit for a patent and he dropped the ball, super lazy. After graduation, he applied for a company I was working for and my director asked if I knew him since our graduation year were similar in the engineering programs. Let's just say I told my director the stunt he pulled as a team member and he didn't get the job. SO DON'T DROP THE BALL ON A GROUP PROJECT IN COLLEGE THINKING IT DOESN'T MATTER

My son is working a summer engineering internship with a company after finishing his freshman year. The head mechanical engineer likes his work ethic so much he is letting him stay on as a part-time intern for as long as he wants.

i’m a mechanical engineer and the best thing i ever did was a co-op. great experience and gives you a few semesters off from the grind of school.

If you have an engineering degree, the assumption is that you are smart/good at math or whatever, so what else are you if this is the baseline for everyone?

I’ve interviewed many people and its always the candidates that have had internships that had the best people skills. Internships are so important these days, we value that more than you being able to finish a degree fast with no actual experience!! Senior projects or mandatory lab reports aren’t enough

Engineer here, this is very true. You can be a 4.0 student but if you lack communication or social skills you kinda cooked. Its not impossible just makes it harder and limits you.

LEARN THE ART OF A RESUME AND COVER LETTER. They are not a blanket one fits all, you have to change it each application. Apply with meaning or don't apply at all. Learn how to phrase what ever you are doing as a professional experience. Example: you are a nerd that plays dnd, once a week I meet with peers and do team building exercises with problem solving scenarios. If you want help or more resources DM me I don't mind helping anyone.

If I’m working full time as a dispatcher at a air cargo company that I got while being an intern, while in college does that still count as the same experience a internship does for and mechanical engineering student?
