@marisadventuresinjapan: One of the most fun festivals I’ve got to see with my own eyes! 🏮 This is the Akita Kanto Festival and it’s still going on until August 6th, so if you’re around you should definitely go and check it out 😆 or save it for next year! Tohoku at this time is always so busy with such amazing festivals. I’ve got to see and share a couple but I’m really thinking I should go back and see a couple more. I don’t think I can wait one year 🤣 At this festival performers balance massive bamboo poles (called kanto) weighing up to 50 kilograms and holding up to 46 lit paper lanterns 🏮 they use only their palms, foreheads, shoulders, and hips. 👀 It’s crazy to watch them adding sticks on sticks and balancing such tall poles!
