This is how I do the tomatoes in my greenhouse 🍅🌱☀️💙 🌱 These tomatoes are indeterminate which means they keep growing up like vines - check which type of tomato you’re growing before following the pruning advice in this video 🍅 If your tomatoes are determinate (bush variety) don’t prune them like this. 🌱 I have interplanted my tomatoes with basil, chillies and lettuce (the lettuce will be coming out soon as it heats up in the greenhouse I’m thinking about 3 things when I am pruning my tomatoes: 🌱 Access to sunlight for both my tomato plants and the plants growing beneath my tomatoes 🌱 Air circulation, which helps to prevent disease such as the dreaded blight which thrives in humid conditions 🌱 Getting as much ripe fruit as possible before the end of the growing season Here’s what I’m doing: 🍅 Removing the lower leaves of my tomato plants, to below the lowest truss with little fruits on them. This helps with air circulation, ensures the plants growing beneath my tomatoes receive plenty of sunlight, and directs the tomato plants energy into ripening the fruit on the lower trusses of the plant. It also exposes the fruit at the bottom to more sunshine, which helps with ripening too. 🍅 I’m pinching out the shoots that are growing at a 45 degree angle between the leaf and the stem. This enables me to train the plant as one vine and prevents it from getting bushy, which helps with air circulation and ensures I get plenty of ripe fruit because the plant is focussing its energies into fruit rather than foliage growth. 🍅 I’m removing other plants in my greenhouse that are taking up unnecessary space and light - so weeding, cutting back my companion plants and removing crops that are no longer useable. #tomatoes #selfsufficient #gyo #growyourown #growyourownfood #homestead #smallholding #garden #lovegardening #kitchengarden #veggarden #plants #igrewthis #ediblegarden #gardendesign
