Happy Adoption Day When this beautiful girl came to us, she had been starved to the point her body was so emaciated that her Winter coat was hanging onto her rain rot covered body. She was terrified to the point of being dangerous. On multiple occasions she struck out at us and would try her best to bite anyone that offered to touch her. If you walked up to the fence, she would pin her ears back and dare you to enter her space. Had a lady make a comment that Santera seemed afraid of her, that’s wasn’t fear, that was respect for everything this girl had been through and respect for what she was capable of doing. We allowed “Jilly” time to start healing, then we started slowly working with Jilly. We knew we couldn’t push this little mare to do anything. We were going to have to gain her trust first, then ask and back off, then repeat. Although Jilly healed on the outside, her inside, her heart, her trust, took more time. She needed that time to try to overcome the pure torment she had been through. She needed understanding of what her past had left in her mind. We are truly grateful for all of you that have supported and donated to make her transformation possible and we will update as her next steps in life come available from her new adopters.
