Your slipping your clutch and causing premature wear. And causing your clutch to over heat for no reason. When you down shift Come on the clutch just past the bite point tap your gas then shift down. Then come off the clutch smooth. This is called Rev matching.

When I was younger I learned to drive an old truck with gearbox without synchronizer, but truck had a huge load of torque, it is nothing compared to small engines with synchronized gearbox, use the comfort of this things they were designed to make your life more comfortable

The revs won’t get higher if you don’t press the accelerator ! You will reduce jerkiness if you keep your foot on the accelerator as you change gear. This is basic stuff that a decent driving instructor ought to teach.
