@hmdjobs: Losing your brakes on a steep, winding mountain pass is the ultimate test of a trucker's skill, nerves, and lane control. Flying downhill at seventy-plus miles per hour while threading through oncoming traffic with smoking wheel ends leaves zero room for error. While expert steering keeps everyone on the road safe, gravity and momentum eventually catch up when the heavy load finally tips. Drop a comment below: have you ever had to ride out a runaway grade without brakes? #hmdtrucking
he should have never been in that situation to begin with

Now I know I’m not a million pound hauler but, I’m from Colorado with all the gnarly passes. I gross around 85-90k yes I’m overweight almost every time I leave, and as long as I’m in a low enough gear BEFORE I start going down the pass I have absolutely no issues. It mind boggles me how this is so common

Rookie truck drivers who just use there brakes and heat them up so bad that they glaze up. Downshifting is key to control your speed.

As the saying goes, you can go down the hill many times slow, but you'll only get once to fast.

Once I had a driveshaft fly out of a triaxle dump truck as toped a hill on the interstate at 65 and rip 2 air tanks off the frame and the Jake brake killed the engine (pre computer ara). Steep curvy grade but luckily only 2 miles and I fought the guardrail all the way down. I had put all new brakes on both drive axles about a month or so before that so that helped keep it under control but it still smoked em pretty good

Down shift proper gear before entering downhill would prevent this and don’t try down shifting once your on the downhill slope seen many drivers try just to miss gear and loose it all the way
