@rcobooth: Many things affect whether a woman will have a baby but a big one we don’t talk about enough is whether the mom feels dad will be a supportive partner who shares the load #birthrate #equalpartnership #mentalload #workingparents #fairplay
This is why it shouldn't be called a "fertility" gap. It's a safety selection.

I mean look at the Lindsey Clancy case. That could be any one of us left to drown post partum. Also a fam annihilation takes place every 5 days in the US. Women aren’t willing to sacrifice their lives to have a baby. Not to mention the maternity care deserts and draconian reproductive laws that literally kill women unnecessarily.

The expectation that as a woman and wife id be doing it all is something I accepted and didn’t waste my breath fighting it. I instead chose to be a mom on my own, sans husband. I’m doing it all still, but I’m not carrying a grown man on my back as well.

I wouldn’t have been willing to have a baby with anyone who wasn’t going to do his share of the work- fortunately I found one, but I respect people who just opt out

I am so sick of hearing people label the men’s responsibilities as “Help“. No. We don’t want our partner to “help “raise their kids, clean their house, participate in their own damn life. They would have to do all these things if they were single. Stop calling it Help. They’re not “helping US” with bare minimum basic responsibilities. what we’re asking of them is partnership and for them to participate – actively – in their own damn lives. Calling it Help makes it sound like they’re doing us a favor. And that’s their attitude towards it. That needs to stop.

I was raised by a single mother who made me promise not to marry or have kids before I was 30. She taught me the importance of financial independence above all else. Now I have a husband who does half the childcare and the majority of the housework, while I’m the breadwinner.

Absolutely true. The only reason I'm considering a child is because my husband is an equal partner in all domestic labor. I refer to it as conditional. Both marriage and child rearing were conditional for me, depending on whether I found the right partner. I didn't want either of these things independent of the conditions of partnership.

I'm in my second marriage right now. my husband is an amazing dad and we have two kids right now. one from his last marriage and one we just had. he's a great dad and husband. we are going to try to have one or two more kids. if I had gotten pregnant in my first marriage I would have gotten an abortion. there's no way I could have parented there.

So, just to understand this whole thing better. So, birth rates have been falling for several decades now. Some places more than others. The author here, or the video creator and some comments, propose that the whole thing can be explained by one variable. But the thing is that the data itself only accounts for a tiny difference. Meaning 90% of the cases can't be explained by this variable. But it's presented as the most relevant thing. When people say 'more' you need to know in more is double, 50% more, 25%, or 3%. There's a reason there is no graphic or real values shown on the video, because it doesn't help the sensationalism, the click bait rate.

What do you think of the study being done primarily blaming social media? As you said fertility is dropping everywhere even egalitarian societies (just as not fast) Europe despite all their benefits and equality is also not able to reverse the trend. Social media theory: youtu.be/6lFXmDk-tps
