this is also why we practice Yin Yoga - increase range of motion, strength tendons - bones are "plastic" muscles are "elastic"

I always wonder what hope the next generation have when women are still so often reduced to our appearance. Watching the World Cup, so much of the conversation around Shakira wasn’t about a performer who’s spent decades entertaining millions of people, it was about how incredible she looked. Madonna, on the other hand, was criticised for looking “too different”, for having cosmetic work, for refusing to “act her age”. The message is the same. However a woman looks, that’s what we’ll talk about. We do it with Shania Twain. We do it with Adele, arguably one of the greatest vocal talents this country has ever produced, yet somehow the conversation always ends up being about her weight. We do it with Ariana Grande. We even do it with female MPs, analysing what they’re wearing before we’ve even considered what they’re saying. And I think that’s worth reflecting on because we’re all navigating beauty standards we didn’t create, but every time we comment on another woman’s body, whether it’s her weight, her wrinkles, her cellulite or how “good she looks for her age”, we’re helping to keep those standards alive. That’s why my children never hear me criticise my own body or another woman’s body. I don’t want Ada growing up believing her value lives in her appearance or that external validation is something she should spend her life chasing. I want her to believe she’ll be remembered for the way she made people feel, the things she created, the ideas she had and the life she lived. And I don’t want Alfie growing up thinking a woman’s appearance is the most interesting thing about her either. I want him to listen to women, to respect women and to admire them for their character, their ideas and their contribution to the world. I want to live in a world where we’re praised for our achievements over our appearance ❤️ #fyp #feminism #bodyconfidence
