Kudos to you for all you did. I will die on the hill that it’s easier for a son to take weekends off to have “some semblance of a life”. A daughter would have to stay 24-7.

This is exactly what balance sounds like. People need to recognize that the caregivers are trained and objective in ways an adult son or daughter can never be. Let yourself be a son or daughter not also a nurse.

Agree but some of us can’t afford that luxury.

I took care of three family members, mother and two siblings. Now retired it destroyed my financial security. I don’t have one regret doing this for them - still beating myself up that could have done more. People plan for their own security but don’t plan for care giving of lived ones.

Thank you for saying this. As a daughter everything has fallen on me and people are surprised I don’t think it’s fair.

I don’t mind going “all in” because afterwards I have no regrets. It is not a long time to look after someone who is probably one of the few in life who genuinely cares about you.

Some people do not have the financial ability to afford outside caregivers. I’m the only sibling who had the task of taking care of 3 parents, dad, mom and stepdad. There are not enough resources for much of anything that is needed. I’m grateful I didn’t lose my mind or go broke with what I was able to do for them. Hopefully they are resting in peace. ❤️

life needs to continue, and parents in their right minds would want children to live with joy apart from parents

Yes, but also medical aid in dying for terminal patients should be nationalized as a choice for those who want it.

Some of us don’t have a village. I’m caregiving the 4th family member. There’s no one left but me.

I took care of my friend when she was dying from breast cancer. We had been friends since we were kids. It was one of hardest things I’ve ever done while being one of the most rewarding. Death is weird.

I did this for my friend because I know exactly his personality and he would never be happy ,comfortable ! He would be a trouble maker too
