I’ve learned a lot through all of this. As painful as it was, I’ve realized that being single isn’t the worst thing. In many ways, it’s more peaceful. I can think clearly, focus on my kids, and finally start healing instead of constantly being put down.
I won’t pretend the betrayal, manipulation, and disrespect didn’t hurt they did. But I’m not in that place anymore. I’m no longer holding on to anger. I’m letting go and detoxing from everything that kept me emotionally trapped. That’s the hardest part because I still see pieces of him in our children, and they deserve to have both parents.
I’ll always give him credit for being a loving father to our kids, but as a partner, the relationship caused a lot of damage. I had to rebuild my life from the ground up while working two jobs and making sure my children had a roof over their heads. It wasn’t easy, but I did it.
Today, my peace is worth more than trying to fix someone who didn’t want to change. My focus is no longer on us it’s on our children and creating a better future for them. I may not be exactly where I want to be yet, but I’m proud of how far I’ve come. I’m grateful for what I have, and I know with time, patience, and hard work, my kids and I will get where we’re meant to be.
