@harlowglenn: The obsession with making every adult responsibility an example of oppression by the patriarchy clearly drives me insane #conservativesoftiktok #women #niche #feminism #mentalload

Then why do I always know what food to buy at the grocery store but my husband is completely lost? And why do so many women know what vaccines their kids have and their husbands dont? Did we all marry losers then? or it is normalized that men doing chores is "helping" the woman but a woman doing chores is her duty.

What I find most interesting is there is an entire other side to this that is just as well documented but gets absolutely zero discussion. Look up maternal gatekeeping and tell me it doesn’t sound a lot like what most guys complain about. But somehow that pathology is never brought up but “weaponized incompetence” is a phrase we all hear constantly. It’s really strikingly asymmetrical.

And the “mental load” somehow only applies to the things women do but everything men do is “the bare minimum”

My favorite is when they try to say he would have to work anyway even if he was single. OK Andrea, and? You’d have to do laundry if you lived by yourself.

You’re arguing against a caricature instead of what people actually mean. Mental load isn’t “doing chores”, it’s being the one who has to remember the groceries, schedule the appointments, keep track of the bills, notice what’s running out, and delegate everything in the first place. No one is saying every chore is oppression, but pretending this dynamic doesn’t exist because some people overuse the term isn’t a serious argument. Communication matters, but so does consistently sharing the responsibility of managing a household. I agree that a man picking the wrong brand of pickles isn’t a huge deal, but what if she has told him before what kind to buy? What if he continues to make that mistake? That would be a communication error on the husband side. You’re telling women to take accountability, but then take away all accountability for the man for being a bad husband, just because the woman “chose” him. 😭

"mental load" is women saying "I had to get dressed, get my keys, open the car door, then close the car door, then start the car, then I adjusted the radio volume, then checked the mirrors, I opened the garage door, then I put my foot on the break and shifted into reverse, then I backed the car out of the garage, then I stopped the car, and closed the garage door. then I backed into the street and drove down the block, I stopped at the atopsign and made a right, then I drove a few miles and merged onto the highway. I then merged off the highway and onto the service road. I turned the car into the parking lot of the grocery store and I circled the parking lot till I found a spot to park, then I put the car in park and turned it off, I then got out of the car and walked toward the store entrance but I had to stop and walk ALL THE WAY back to the car because I forgot to lock it. then I walked ALL THE WAY back to the store entrance and found a cart. then I had to walk into the store......." men just say "I went to the grocery store"

I hated the way he folded the laundry. Hated it. And after a while I asked myself….why? He’s folding the laundry. I hate doing laundry and he offered to do it. He does it all. So I stopped caring how the laundry is folded.

Right?! It’s just household chores. I don’t want to define my existence by them but they aren’t oppressing me either.

You’ve missed the point, dear. Women only discuss the metal load in regard to marriages where the man is not doing their part. “Be an adult, discuss it” they’ve tried that. “Oh well you married a loser” men don’t tell you ahead of time they’re going to be losers. Life will humble you ❤️

Anybody remember that trend where women were using that audio that went “All day everyday therapist, mother, maid’ nymph, then a virgin” over footage of their oppression and it was always just them doing the absolute bare minimum parenting?

SAHM is viewed as the hardest possible job on the planet and I truly don’t understand it lol - nothing is easy. Managing a house. Financing the entire life of multiple people. Doing chores. Missing out of parts of kids lives. Somehow it’s seen as a one sided difficulty. Followed by dumb opinions being validated by virality. Happiness should be the goal. Not misery.

Most of the metal load or extra labor complaints women have are about things they consider “household” things but the husband wouldn’t do even if he was living alone. Ie, they are only things the woman cares about and wants to do. But she thinks he should also be equally invested in them.

I use this analogy: If you were a runner on a track team and at every practice your coach only ever told you that you did everything wrong but never once explained how to do it correctly, how many times would you put up with it before you stopped showing up to practice?
