Are you the Caregiver — the sensible, other-regarding one who looks after others? Are you the Jester — the joking, laughing, easy-breezy sort? Are you the Lover, who's passionate about life and about love? These are known as ‘archetypes,’ and the team at Hungry Minds are busy working on a human-made, beautiful piece of art and literature that explores just these. Archetypes are personality types. They are the heroes of role-playing games, the characters in a sitcom, and the roles we play in our group dynamics. For Carl Jung, we can have many archetypes living within us at any one time, sometimes clashing, and sometimes at peace. For Joseph Campbell, archetypes form the backdrop of almost all of the stories and myths we tell. Yoda the Sage, Loki the Jester, Robin Hood the Revolutionary, and so on. The team at Hungry Minds have given 13 different artists the same 13 archetypes to draw in their book, The Atlas of Archetypes. These artists never saw each other's pages, and what you have is 13 characters living within their own visual world, all drawn by hand, without any AI at all. And so, these archetypes are explored twice: first, as a piece of fiction, speaking in their own voice, and, second, as a piece of philosophical and psychological commentary. This is a deeply human book about what it means to be human, and, if that is something you want to explore and to support, there is a link in my bio. It's the perfect thing for any of us wanting to explore not only our deeper personality, but also our relationship with the people that we love.
