@tom.developer: “Drones are so 2010s” is probably what you though before watching this video. Last week I got to see how autonomous drone technology is being used to help save the UK’s Network Rail millions of pounds! You see, the UK's biggest train station, London Waterloo, has a really big problem. Every time there's a fault with the tracks or someone trespasses onto the line, the entire station needs to be shut down. This costs Network Rail millions of pounds in fines every time it happens These autonomous drones (supervised by a real person) are used to automatically detect faults and detect trespassers without the need for humans to be sent out onto the tracks to find out what's wrong. A company callee SkyBound (based in Southampton) is behind this tech, and the plan is to continue to deploy it around the UK!
Literally no one is saying drones aren’t going anywhere… lol

They could use AI to monitor the CCTV but I guess every part of the track would have to be covered by cameras

Do the trains have to be stopped until the drone has surveyed its area?

The Chongqing East Railway Station is the biggest railway station in the world. Built almost entirely by AI powered drones. Every millimetre was precision assembled autonomously.

Shame they couldn’t tell the train crew about this, rather than having to find out via this

Why don’t we just have specially trained unit that just goes onto the track? Highly motivated and just grab the trespasser and get them off and do it in ultra quick time highly efficient highly trained group of men that just do one job like a special unit and a on standby 24 hours a day be much easier much quicker to have the men ready and even deploy them to other stations were needed instead of missing
