I treat Claude like Mr. Meeseeks. They're there to do a task but I will kill them and spin up ten more at a moment's notice. Treat every agent as ephemeral and do not rely on their context as memory

The best fix: /compact at every milestone, optionally adding a comment on what to keep or forget. I usually tell Claude “okay, I’m at a good spot for compaction, is there anything you need to wrap up first?” And it’ll usually tell me there’s a few things it wants to write down that’s only in the session, then it says go for it. Also keeps the context window from getting so big that it chews up more tokens with each turn — compacting helps that.

how can you tell if a claude session has perfect context …? or is it just a vibe

Bryce Hamrick :
If you’re relying on session context you already failed. Everything needs to be in persistent memory or files.

/compact (and then type out what you want prioritized and saved); so like: /compact prioritize the plan and what weve completed so far, specifically the first three things we did.
Claude will then compress and save those things specifically in context!

are you not using markdown files for persistent memory across context windows?

I have a simple “savepoint” skill just for this. Based on compact but store to file you can load w “load-savepoint”. Line-markers for code and store key decisions, allow for input prompt to affect target focus.

I just compact and pretend the soul of the perfect context is still there
