Once he knew that if those 7,000 experienced warriors stayed guarding the pass, the army would be wiped out by the end of the day. He chose 300 spartans, those with sons to carry their last name because he knew they were all to die in the next battle. Though it wasn’t 300, 1.2k stayed, 700 Thespians who’s home was right next to the pass, they also knew the Persians would destroy it passing by. Dying a meaningless death. 400 Thebans (Leonidas kept them because he suspected if they left they’d join with the Persians) so political hostages. Overall with that being, it only amounted to a puny number in comparison to the Persians 1,500 V ~120,000-300,000. With that being said they still managed to devour ~20,000. Which may seem small but the ratio to that was 1:13 each goddamn Spartan had to have killed 13 Persian warriors who also consisted of significant figures, two royal princes, direct blood brothers of the current emperor, generals, and the best of the best soldiers names ‘immortals’

I have a project that I’m making, consist of discipline, knowledge, nutrition and consistency. It’s called Project Spartan, the motto is: One day, yo don’t transform. But a hundred days, you achieve it. The word that we use to make myself more dicipline, Ad Victorium, which means To the Victory. And basically means it’s not about winning in everything, but being a better version everyday of yourself that you were the day before. I’ll be back in a year. And I will comment on this again once the project its done. See you in a year.

Therefore, 300 should mainly be considered an action and fantasy movie inspired by a historical event, rather than a reliable source for learning about the history of Persia and Greece.
