Hi, it's Juliana! This super controlling behavior doesn't just happen with toilet paper. It happens with things like: – How much food you eat. – How long you shower. – How much money you spend. – How you fold the laundry. – How much soap you use. The list is honestly longer than train smoke. But why? Why do narcissistic partners treat you like this? I like to think about it like a video game. You know how in some games, the character you're playing with has a health bar? When you lose health, there are usually big things you can do to gain a lot of it back. Like using a health potion. And there are also small things you can do too. Like eating a piece of food. But these small things barely fill your health bar, so you have to do them over and over again. What's my point? Well, narcissistic partners don't feel good about themselves. They're really good at acting like they do. But underneath that, they tend to have extremely fragile self-esteem and self-worth. And they don't know how to change this in a healthy way. So instead of relying on healthy behaviors like building genuine confidence, developing skills, or learning to feel secure in themselves to improve their self-esteem, they rely on narcissistic behaviors that make them feel validated, admired, reassured, powerful, or in control. So if you think of how they feel about themselves as their health bar, every time they: – Tell you how to fold the laundry. – Decide how much toilet paper you're allowed to use. – Correct the way you load the dishwasher. It's essentially their version of eating those little pieces of food or picking up those small health items to increase their health. It doesn't fill their health bar very much. But if they can correct you, control you, and tell you what to do all day long, those little boosts start to add up. And the more their “health bar” fills up, the better they feel about themselves. If you need someone to talk to about all of this, you can always send me a DM or schedule a session with me. My team and I help people heal from narcissistic abuse, and many of us have experienced it ourselves, so we're here if you need us. To your healing, Juliana ❤️‍🩹
