I do agree with a lot of this, but mine were done as a baby (like 6 months ish I believe) and I have no memory of it, and am glad my mom had it done.

This is one of my favorite hot takes. I waited till my daughter asked for earrings. Found a place that did the piercing with a needle rather than a gun. Like it is a big deal for them. We made it a whole event. Got special earrings took her to lunch. It’s so much more fun when they want it

My kids told me when they wanted their ears pierced 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️I wasn’t forcing my family’s cultural beliefs on my daughters. I let them have a say unlike me. I’m heavily pierced now.

glad my mom did it when I was a baby, coz growing up I am genuinely terrified of needles I could throw up, even kind of right now as an adult. the mom should not forced the kid if the kid doesn't want it, or she could have done it when they're still a baby.

So, when I was a kid, my parents had the rule that I had to be 12 years old to get my lobes done. My mom wanted me to have them done sooner than that and she took me before my 8th birthday to get them done. Let's talk about this. Did I want them done? Yes, but that was because cute earrings and all my friends had their ears pierced. Looking back now, I do not stand with that decision. I wish I'd have waited until I was 12 because at 8, I don't think I was really ready for that decision. At 16, I decided I wanted my second holes. I was 16. I don't regret that choice. At 16, I was old enough to make that decision and because I was 16, my dad supported it, even though he told me I had enough holes in my head. I told my husband that our children will be a minimum of 12 before they are allowed to make the choice to get their ears pierced because of my personal experience. I will not change my mind. Peircings are body modifications and as an 8 year old, I didn't understand the responsibility that they truly were.
