@drhazelwallace: ⚠️ TW: This post discusses depression and su!c!dal thoughts. Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder (PMDD) is more than "just bad PMS." PMDD is a severe, cyclical mood disorder that affects around 3–8% of women. Symptoms typically appear in the 1–2 weeks before a period and improve, or disappear, shortly after menstruation begins. While PMDD can cause physical symptoms similar to PMS, it's characterised by much more severe psychological symptoms, including intense irritability, anger, anxiety, depression and mood swings that can significantly affect work, relationships and daily life. PMDD is recognised as a depressive disorder in the DSM-5. For some people, symptoms can include su!c!dal thoughts or behaviours, which is why recognising it and seeking appropriate support is so important. If your mood changes before your period are severe, predictable each month, and interfere with your life, please don't dismiss them as something you just have to put up with. Please speak to your GP 🤍 Thank you to the original creator for being so vulnerable and raising awareness @JESSIE HALLETT #pmdd #pms #lutealphase

I have PMDD and really struggle. My GP told me the option is just antidepressants and that you will learn to just cope with it. I am hoping to find lifestyle changes and other things will help even just a little bit. Thanks for highlighting Dr Hazel 🫶

I’ve been tracking my symptoms over years but I’m unsure how to bring this to my GP. Any advice on how to get this taken seriously during a GP appointment?

I found PMDD was an actual disorder during Covid. I used to think I just had bad period symptoms, it was awful, hysterical crying, emotional numbness, negative, feelings of severe depression. Finding out PMDD even existed helped - I went to the doctor in a bad mental state, and they suggested some form of antidepressant…but I knew that that wasn’t going to help me long term, because come the day my period started, I started getting back to myself. 6 years on, I’ve found that regular training has really helped me, cutting out alcohol, regulating my nervous system - which has and still is taking me years - and eating regularly and good foods. I still get symptoms but NOTHING comparable. I hope this helps someone else. x

I had PMDD for 2-3 years. I found that cycle syncing helped me a lot. And managing stress too. I think it’s tied to hormonal imbalances and genetics
