I agreed with your realism not being overrated take. but I doubt the 'obsession with efficiency' as a way to override the appreciation of skill. Efficiency of what? time? resources? Because those who are creating art that you categorize as 'obsessed with efficiency', might be because that's how they want to express their creativity, because 2 hours is all they can spare for the day until their work takes the entire half. I'm glad realism is becoming recognized for the effort it takes to learn it, but sometimes art is only efficient all because it's accessible for the ones creating it.

the absolute hate feeling when someone looks at a draw I made and their questions is "but u were looking at another picture?" discrediting my work as if using reference for realism is a crime, especially family members that understand nothing about art and have never touched a pencil. I just tell them to grab a pencil and do the same, if it is just a copy.

It’s cool don’t get me wrong but the art of having the artistry to make a character out of your brain with your own artstyle and own way of drawing like your not looking at one photo and pasting it on a piece of paper(some people do it with characters to get better)

People most of the time don't like realism because they prefer creativity and uniqueness from the artist, as it communicates what is inside their mind. I don't know where you got that people wanted "efficiency" in ART.

because its not interesting. people can go do realistic photo referenced pieces as a hobby or for practice but its never something evoked anything other than showing off skill in technique. an artist should can create something artistically interesting and unique will always be more well respected. artists who draw in a style seeking out efficiency over any creative thought are in the same boat as people who draw realism, just downright uninterested individuals.

It's the opposite. People who draw realism are more focused on accuracy and perfectly mirroring a real object or person - which lacks creativity and talent but takes skill and efficiency. It doesn't take anything like personality, talent, strong emotion, etc. to create hyperrealistic and realistic art.

its not really artistic or creative though. It's an impressive skill and craft, but personally i dont view it as art unless it's doing more than just mimicking basic shots. Realisim from old paintings was done well with a lot of symbolism and thought put into it the subjects and compositions of the paintings
