@ufdtech: Google HAD to have known this wasn’t gonna end well The AI image generation tool baked into Google Earth became incredibly problematic VERY quickly, and they’ve now decided to roll back their decision to make it public It lasted a single day - but Nano Banana was a generative AI image creator was a way to modify satellite photos from the most reputable globe visualization service on the planet with essentially whatever you want - and regardless of whether or not Google put a watermark in the corner, things got too dicey too fast As soon as they let people access it, people started using Nano Banana to do things like make it look like meteors had struck certain areas, built fake homeless encampments in new places, and just generally made stuff that could easily be used to lie on the internet The files weren’t super well-guarded, either - streets are saying that the watermarks were pretty easily worked around post-generation - and the image files themselves are essentially glorified screen recordings without many preventative measures to keep them from becoming subject to tampering long-term
