went for the first time in 25 years! much much preferred the face to face. e z p z. I was welcomed back and have been attending mass regularly ever since. if I can do it, you can definitely do it 😄

You don’t need a priest to confess your sins too. You can go directly to Jesus who is our High Priest.

I can attest to this. I was 12 years away from confession & went back this past Lent. I sobbed & left everything in that confessional. I had the best Lent of my life.

I went after 40 years. It was a face to face confession. It was hard. I did my penance and had to go back another time to confess more sins. I'm glad because I want to follow what God asks of us, but I did not feel like a million bucks. I found it stressful and I still felt bad about all I confessed.

I haven’t been to confessions in 40 years and have NO intention of returning. NOWHERE in scripture does it mention ‘confessions’ in the sense that an ordained priest has the power to forgive sins. NOWHERE!! The concept of private confession was created by Irish monks centuries ago and one might ask why? At the beginning of every Mass we say the confeteor, where we confess to Almighty God and to our brothers and sisters the we have greatly sinned. We ask forgiveness and that is good enough for me.

I went to confession after 20 years and the priest told me I made his day. He passed away a couple months after that. RIP Father Kiernan. 😢

Question for Catholics (and maybe Orthodox). Say you sinned 10 years ago, and it’s not a sin that you remember at all. You don’t even remember that you committed this sin, so you can’t confess it. It’s not one that you can do a “catch all” confession for, like saying “I’ve lied multiple times over the last x years.” What can you do in that situation? It’s a real sin, it needs to be confessed, but you don’t remember that you’ve committed it so it doesn’t weigh on your conscience. Is there something in the confession that accounts for things like this? I’m not Catholic myself (yet) but this is something I’ve wondered about.
