I understand at such a visceral level this conversation. I remember how my spicy-mom was like at this stage. I desperately want to save you from the aggravation- it’s not worth it. Don’t argue, just do what you have to do, and lie to her. It took me way too long to learn that lesson.

Just throw it out when she is napping. My mother didn't even have dementia and she wouldn't let anyone clean out the twenty year old ice block of food in her freezer. She wasn't even strong enough to open the door. So every garbage day when I was there, a bag's worth got cleaned out. Just do a work around.

I threw out 6 bags of rotting food 2 days ago. Filled a whole tipper can. Sometimes I have to put ithe trash in my car and bring it to my house to throw out because as soon as I leave she will dig through her trash and pull it out 🤦🏼♀️

I went through my mum’s cupboards this week and filled 5 bin bags with out of date food, flour, etc she was mad at me for not asking her… I’d asked her multiple times 🤣

If you ever have small moments she is not around you while you are there, throw it out without her seeing you. One thing, one moment at a time. I know for a while that I thought my mom was gonna notice, but she never noticed, and it was much easier than battling her. You will never win an argument with her.

OMG. The random stuff in the freezer. Ruined fresh salads just randomly frozen. Not covered, just set in there the way I prepared it the night before. I summon my teenage self while I sneak stuff out hidden under my shirt to not have this conversation. 😳😳😳

My brother and I have to tag team this caregiver task because she has lost the ability manage her fridge. One of us gets mom out of the house, and the other one empties the fridge.

A family member had a box of sweet potatoes, and we threw them out because they were rotting. They managed to get out of the house and drag the box of rotten sweet potatoes back from the road and hid them under their bed. 🤦🏽♀️
