It absolutely does. I'd honestly argue that belonging to at least one marginalized community makes you a lot more likely to be a good writer. Because those people have something to say but are usually not heard in real life.

Okay I know this is totally anecdotal evidence and doesn't count for much, but if I count every book I've read this year, or franky all my life if I'm being completely honest, the straight romance books have been borderline abusive (and I'm NOT talking about dark romance, I mean run of the mill no trigger warnings romance), and the books written by black women have been mind-blowingly good. Like it's not even about being woke or whatever, you genuinely get so many good books if you expand your tastes just a little.

I need non cis recs, I’m just realizing my queer section almost completely lacks in trans rep (which is crazy cuz I myself am in the trans community😭)

Exactly, because why do so many people want to limit what they read in that way?? Like they’re missing out on soo many incredible stories because they only ever want to read from their own perspective and lived experience

I honestly just wish there were more poc romance books pertaining to women, or just poc authors that are popular in the same revilancy as Stephanie garber, holly black, etc

No, because why is me, a Latina expected (by the white population internally or not) to read any white book and understand and sympathize with them (I do with any other character because the feelings those characters have, I faced for another reason) but white people aren’t expected to read books by people of color?

i think it’s somewhat books by minorities not being pushed enough because the publishing industry does not care so then any privileged person “casually” only reads books from the same people because you need to TRY to diversify your reading yourself and they don’t bother. i think it all goes back to “not wanting to think” which is a huge issue today. of course, this doesn’t account for people who do it on purpose. but for any woman/poc/queer person etc. you will see straight cis white male books EVERYWHERE, but a person who isn’t in a minority and doesn’t bother to search for said books, they need those stories to basically fall on their heads or they won’t notice.
