To everyone saying he “missed every shot”: as a combat veteran and current TAC medic, I can tell you that even if his return fire did not hit the target, the act of returning fire can still serve an important purpose. In a situation like this, suppressive or pinning fire can disrupt the threat’s actions, create hesitation, and buy valuable time for additional resources to arrive. You also have to consider the disadvantage of being outgunned. A handgun against a long gun puts someone at a significant tactical disadvantage. The objective is not always immediate incapacitation; sometimes it is creating enough disruption and time for a better tactical response. The argument that a good citizen’s missed shots are the bigger concern misses the larger context of an active shooter situation. The immediate priority is stopping the threat while attempting to limit casualties.

Once the guy in the cowboy hat wasn't considered "an accomplice", the major media stopped covering him. This is the temperature of America. This country has spent 40 hard years demonizing guns to the point where people are uncomfortable seeing them in public.
