This is a great idea! I did have a suggestion though… I saw another video about teachers saying “I love the way….” and essentially it stated that when you say it that way you’re teaching students that they’re doing good things to just please you. Instead saying, “you’re sitting really nicely, go put a gem in the jar.” taking the word “I” out of it so students aren’t following expectations. We’re doing what they’re supposed to just please you. Just a thought and suggestion.

I used to give extra gems for CHAMPion behavior at specials or if another teacher complimented our class in the hallway etc…

I use this same concept, but I use colorful pom poms which we lovingly call "warm fuzzies" and an "invisible bucket". It all starts with "Have You Filled a Bucket Today" and I explain that when the kids give me or others warm fuzzy feelings by making good choices, it helps fill our classroom bucket 🙂

As an older teacher this is the marble jar. Only difference is we didnt buy gems,pompous, etc. Marbles were in our science kits.
