Everyone’s body chemistry is different. Both views are correct. I tried gabapentin for weeks. I made it half way to efficacy and had to stop due to significantly detrimental cognitive side effects and I was part of an executive team with federal partners and could not do my job.

I believe the outcry of gabapentin is the fact that a lot of doctors are prescribing it without considering any other options. And it's great for the people it works for. The problem is statistically, it only helps 3to 4 people out of 10. Opioids are more effective for more people. But in the current environment, doctors aren't prescribing them. And the thing is that " options" are very limited now. Keep in mind that the only thing I take for pain for the past 7 years is aspirin and ibuprofen. It's not even worth trying to find real help for me anymore because I simply cannot do dozens of doctor visits and looking for a pain clinic. I can't even be on my feet more than about 10 minutes at a time.

It works for some people and that is great for them. Years later I’m still dealing with neurological issues, severe dental issues, and possibly the trigger for nonfamial Parkinson’s. I would just like to see it not pushed as the ultimate pain medication when a patient says it is not working or the drs rx when it is not appropriate like mastectomy surgeries. More I

I’m in the middle.i take gabapentin but its for nerve pain and RLS (RLS is an absolute nightmare) i am taking a set amount but a doctor wanted me to up my dose so i did and my RLS went absolutely wild because of it so i went back down to my regular dose and my legs got better.thats why I’m in the middle it can help for some kinds of pain and syndromes i just don’t believe a high dose is needed…

Gabapentin after two doses tried to give me a heart attack and a stroke at the same time.... lyrica made me blackout and I hit my head and had a pretty good concussion. my body does not like medications.

I tell people what happened and to watch for the side effects. it was horrible for me with memory loss. some people tell me they like it but lots of them including myself weren't informed of the possible side effects. that's a HUGE problem when the dr doesnt tell people. thankfully my mom had the same effects and was able to notice when I told her what was happening

This is true in reflection. I did bad mouth this medication. I think I was more hurt at how my doctor treated me and ignored me.

I want to say I agree with you …. But also tell you my mom and brother in law were on really high doses and both died of kidney and cardiac issues I feel drs don’t monitor the side effects enough but I’ve heard great stories and bad myself I can’t take it or lyrica

Gabapentin increased my nocturnal tonic clonic seizures. They have me on pregabalin now, but it doesn’t do much, if anything. And now I’m supposed to talk to my doctors about my need for pain medication because my cardiologist doesn’t like the stress on my heart that constant sinus tachycardia is causing. 🥺

Gabapentin made me feel absolutely horrible. So much brain fog, delayed reactions, and I just felt sickly.

Exactly! I can’t take penicillin but my other family members do just fine with it. Gabapentin didn’t work for me but it worked for my mother. Every BODY is different.

I have been on gabapentin in 2017 and it has not killed all the pain but it’s curved enough where I can push through and be active in a day now because of me being on it a long earlier in the year I did talk to my doctor about trying different new medication and I couldn’t function. I asked her if she thought after like the third one if we should try something else I really think we should put you back on gabapentin because that was the one I see with no side effect and you seem to be feeling better on it. I just worry about being on a certain medication for so long and it losing its ability to work or growing an immunity

I am grateful to pregabalin I have CRPS and the burn is crazy this is the first med that helps so you're right. it's not a one size fits all approach.

I never wanted a medication to work so badly. I had to many side effects. Just like Lipitor I can’t take that either and I need to.
