Never assume where money is concerned, have the conversation beforehand or make a comment so everything is clear “I’ll need the money for the van & petrol back by this date for my bills”. It doesn’t ensure you’ll get your money back, but there was no room for confusion.

I drove mine home from Wales after her mum died, took a day off work never asked for a penny (100 miles round trip plus the bridge money), picked her up from the hospital and stayed with her when she had a domestic, looked after her child every Thursday night so she could work a night shift, looked after her child while she moved house. she had a thank you party for those who helped her and asked me if I could baby sit! last time I spoke to her

I have spent thousands of pounds and hours over the years celebrating my best friends (of 30 years) life choices - engagement, first house, wedding (in Mauritius), 3 children (baby showers, birthdays, first school days etc). I have never been married and don’t have kids. She couldn’t even spare the time to come to dinner to celebrate my 30th birthday. My mum had a heart attack and she didn’t visit. My dad died and she wouldn’t get a babysitter so she could come to the funeral. She broke my heart over and over again. I eventually stopped reaching out and I never heard from her again 😥

My partner passed away, we had been best friends for 15 years. She wouldn’t come to his funeral because she had a hair appointment and two weeks afterwards I asked if she wanted to have a night in at mine so I wasn’t alone and she said ‘not really your really miserable and boring at the minute’ I never replied to that message, that was 8 years ago. Never seen or heard from her since!

Mine isn’t massive… but turns out it was all one sided, I moved mountains for them, they wouldn’t move an ant hill… I travelled hundreds of miles to keep the friendship going… they wouldn’t travel… I just stopped messaging first… and here we are 8 years later… I get a message from them once or twice a year
