@mightyyyymouse: I told my therapist “I do everything on my own, that’s just how I am.” He didn’t ask why. He just said: “That’s not independence. That’s GRIEF.” And it wrecked me, because he was right. Grief for every time you reached out and nobody came. Grief for being the one holding everything together while falling apart inside. Grief for learning way too young that depending on people gets you HURT. So you adapted. You became the one who handles everything. Thinks three steps ahead. Reads the tone in every text, checks the locks twice, scans every room. The one who says “I got it” while drowning. People call it independent. They have no idea. They don’t see what it costs to be the strong one every single day of your life. They don’t know that “I don’t need anybody” is what a heart says after it needed somebody and paid for it. And if you loved a narcissist, they took what was left. Every time you leaned on them, it got used against you later. So you stopped leaning on ANYONE. That’s not your personality. That’s a scar with a schedule. Here’s the truth. Part of you is so tired of doing it all alone. Part of you just wants to exhale. To be held without bracing for the bill. Hear me.
