Did maths, further maths, physics, and computer science Alevels (I know) and now going into computer science degree! I also did computer science at GCSEs, I was the rare kid that knew they wanted to a specific job at GCSE age

i think it’s very difficult to ask a 16 year old to pick what career path they want to go down already a lot of people don’t know or make the wrong choice

A levels drain your soul. Worst mistake I ever made was going to sixth form to study A levels instead of going to college and do a diploma. Took a foundation year at college after sixth form. Still went to university after everything though.

at the end of year 9 you pick the subjects you want to do for year 10 and 11, you still have to do maths, science, english and pe but you can pick 4 other subjects to do. I did history, food tech, drama and health and social care. After than you can go to 6th form, college, do an apprenticeship or do T levels, I’m going to 6th form and doing health and social care, psychology, applied science and criminology but at my 6th form u only have to do 3 but I’m doing 4.

Until 10 years ago, you could flat out leave education at 16 and enter work. Legally now you have to go through an apprenticeship or do some form of education until you’re 18.

You also can choose to bunk the education system off with little to no percussions. Which seems like a win at 16yo, but you’ll grow up to later regret that decision.. 🤷🏻‍♀️

You're not asking them a career choice, just which subjects they want to focus on. How often do you hear people from other countries moan about studying calculus when they hate math. Studying Shakespeare and classics when they hate literature. Studying physics or chemistry when they don't care for science. You pick 2-5 subjects you are good at and enjoy to focus on. You're not picking to be a doctor yet. You're studying chemistry, biology, and maths. You can pivot into most other stem fields quite easily from there. I opted for physics, further maths, chemistry, and computer science. I loved those subjects and knew I wanted to continue with them. I still had dozens of degrees I qualified for and if I wanted to pivot into, say, medicine I'd need a foundation year at uni for biology and what I missed. So even if you do mess up you simply extend uni from 3 to 4 years
