Maybe you can do rubber bands or something? Usually, I always tie the strings together first and then stick down the candles so the cord is taut, but not pulling the candles down

Knot it and then place it on the candle with wax sealing it to the candle. The knot is still there and it still does the same thing. I had to learn how to do it when I got arthritis in my thumbs
