I remember this doesn't it turn out her father survived but lost his memory and ended up in a hospital rehab ward next door, she tries to escape by running a wooden plank to the building next door and ends up running into him but he doesnt recognise her.

In the book, her father actually does die. He dies from sickness in India. He dies thinking his friend lost all his money in phony diamond mine. She wasnt just mistreated by Miss Minchin but the entire cleaning crew. She was maid for years. It turns out there was diamonds in the mine, she is rich again and her dad's best friend spend years looking for her. His friend finally found Sara and adopts her. Miss. Minchin invites her back to school but she declines the offer. Becky is couple years older than Sara. She wasnt adopted bc it will be inappropriate. However Sara ask her to be her personal maid. Which a lady maid wasnt position to look down upon. Becky will be living in better condition, be education and is able to find herself a nice middle class man
