A Hawaii woman who testified against her husband in his attempted murder trial told jurors how two women hiking rescued her after hearing her screaming for help.Arielle Konig said she "crab walked" down the Pali Puka Trail on O'ahu. Gerhardt Konig, an anesthesiologist in Maui, is charged with second-degree attempted murder for allegedly attacking Arielle Konig while they were hiking to celebrate her March 24, 2025, birthday. Arielle testified on her birthday one year later that Gerhardt smashed her face with a lava rock and tried to inject her with a syringe before she batted it away and two hikers heard her cries for help. Jurors earlier heard from Amanda Morris and Sarah Buchsbaum, who testified they saw a man on top of a woman assaulting her and repositioned themselves to ensure their safety and call 911. Arielle testified she didn't see Amanda and Sarah until after she broke away from Gerhardt and scooted down the steep cliffside trail. "What happened when you got to the two women?" asked Joel Garner, a deputy prosecutor in Honolulu County. "When I got to them, we were just trying to figure out how to get out of there as quickly as we could. And so they tried to stand me up to see if we could walk down with me kind of draped over them to get through. But I couldn't stand," Arielle answered. "So one of them went behind me and was kind of sweeping to make sure he wasn't coming after us, visually scanning to make sure he wasn't coming after us." "And then the other one was in front, leading us, and one of the women had, like, a large metal water bottle, and she had that in her hand, and she was like, 'This is the only weapon I have.' But, and then we just, I crab walked, or, you know, kind of scooted down the whole trail with them on kind of either part to try to keep us safe," Arielle continued. Trial was not in session today (Thursday, March 26). Testimony continues Friday (March 27) in Judge Paul B.K. Wong's courtroom in Hawaii's 1st Circuit Court in Honolulu. #law #Hiking #crime #court
