In Christiane F. – We Children from Bahnhof Zoo (1981), David Bowie appears as both himself and as a powerful symbol. Christiane idolises him, and his music represents hope, freedom, and an escape from the harsh reality of addiction and life on the streets. His concert is one of the few moments in the film where Christiane experiences genuine happiness and a sense of belonging. However, this feeling is temporary, highlighting the contrast between the dreamlike world Bowie represents and the devastating reality of heroin addiction. Bowie’s presence reflects the influence of youth culture and music in the 1970s while also emphasising how even moments of beauty and inspiration cannot overcome the grip of addiction on their own. || #christianef #wechildrenfrombahnhofzooedit #christianefmovie1981 #christianef1981 #davidbowie
