Shortly after 9:00 p.m., a vehicle lost control during an acceleration run, veered off the drag strip, and rolled several times in front of spectators. Emergency crews responded immediately, with firefighters using hydraulic rescue tools to free the two occupants trapped inside the crushed vehicle. The passenger, a man in his 40s, suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead after being transported to a regional hospital. The driver, a man in his 30s, remains in critical condition. The tragedy is the second fatal accident at Sanair in less than a year. In August 2025, another driver was killed after failing to stop at the end of the drag strip before leaving the track and rolling over. A coroner’s report released earlier in 2026 concluded that the previous crash may have been preventable with improved finish-line signage and the restoration of the gravel runoff area designed to slow out-of-control vehicles.
