@saint: C418, the composer and producer best known for his work on the Minecraft soundtrack recently spoke out against AI and claimed it's the reason for the death of “big box video games” AI requires well... a LOT of Ram, so much so that in this current age of AI boom has surged Ram prices through the roof, causing Sony to take this plunge into the “no more discs” era, of their services. Because they can't produce an affordable PS6 anymore, they'll cut costs by making the consumer have less, ultimately... no more borrowing games from friends, no more pre-owned games, etc This is just the beginning for this industry and our generation, welcome to the “you will own nothing, and be happy” timeline Yet another problem that AI is shoving towards us without the majority of the public even wanting AI involved in anything at all

Probaly won’t even get a ps6 at this rate, nobody pays attention to the mineral resources that ai drains through the creation of chips needed to run data centres, people only pay attention to the water, at this rate, in idk 10-15 years WE WONT BE ABLE TI MAKE ANY MORE TECHNOLOGY we will run out of cobalt, gold, silver, everything needed for manufacturing of tech.

One AI chip used for data-mining and training is around 188 GB, and thats just one chip. OpenAI, Meta and others, buy them BY THE RACK (that contain more than a few hundread chips), and now just one rack, HUNDREADS, THOUSANDS in massive data-mining parks, (that ofc also use electricity and need a lot of cooling) basically DRAINING the market of RAM. Why dont we develop new RAM, more efficient for AI? The scummy companies know this wont last. Developing a new chip and building a factory for it would take up to two years if not more, rendering the whole process a risk, in case the bubble bursts by then.

It's kinda sad we never upgraded the medium of Disc storage to store more data I know we have USBs but those can get expensive and can't run games off the bat like how Disc does... Perhaps a new innovation for the future just less about consumerism.

Meh they will find a way to slim it down and make it affordable that’s the only way they can survive as a company
