what people are annoyed by isn't the fact that this is well written monogamy, it's that Rudeus is/was a cheater and the world he was reincarnated into literally rewards his bad behavior in these instances.

Rudeus was able to marry 3 wives because Sylphy was the first wife, she makes the final decision. She is fine with Sarah if they both love each other, the only person she strongly oppose is Nanahoshi. Sylphy always thought she knew Rudeus since childhood, but Nanahoshi can speak foreign language with Rudeus terrified her, implying that they shared some past she didn't know.

I don't understand their argument either because being monogamous doesn't make that person have no self-respect, she's made it clear to Rudeus that she will not accept or tolerate him going behind her back or getting involved with other women without informing her and allowing her to assess the situation, bro is still on the leash it's just a lot looser than most relationships and I don't think there's anything necessarily wrong with that even though it wouldn't be anything I would be interested in personally
