I was told at age 9 I’m going to hell bc I didn’t go to confession before taking the Eucharist. Dropped that shit that day. Raising my kids to be good people who care about others and the planet.

My kids were raised Catholic, as part of our family's culture. I have been careful to find progressive Catholic churches/pastors that emphasize following Jesus and teach hope instead of condemnation. My son no longer identifies as Catholic but does believe in God and admires Pope Leo. My daughter prays daily and attends Mass occasionally, as her work schedule allows. Both have told me that their religious faith has been a comfort to them in dealing with the loss of loved ones. I don't regret raising my kids in the Church, but I do understand and accept their choices as adults.
