I live in Tulsa. After living for many years living in LA and flying out of LAX. I can get to the airport in 15 minutes. There’s always parking. There’s never more than a 5 minute line at TSA. It’s like a miracle. Just waiting for more direct and international flights.

tulsa actually has a huge aviation maintenance industry. American Airlines' largest maintenance base is there, and as you saw, Lufthansa is also there

Took one of my favorite pictures ever at TUL. I used to be a major aviation nerd back in high school (2016) so when I saw Iron Maiden was on tour with this iconic plane I had to see it in person. I made the 2 hour pilgrimage lay eyes on this beauty. What a dream come true, also this was first ever 747 I saw in person lol. Also fun fact: Bruce Dickinson, the lead singer of Iron Maiden is commercially rated and the captain of this plane. That’s an insane amount of stamina and dedication to play a 2 hour show then get up the next morning and fly a jumbo jet for an entire world tour! Also their call sign included the numbers 666 lmao

Another cool thing about Tulsa International Airport is that it operates as the primary maintenance hub for American Airlines 737 and 787 fleet, so despite being a fairly small commercial airport you can see 787s flying in for maintenance on a daily basis. It is the largest commercial aircraft maintenance facility in the world! The facility just celebrated its 80 year anniversary this year! https://news.aa.com/news/news-details/2026/American-Airlines-Tulsa-base-maintenance-facility-celebrates-80-years-of-excellence-OPS-OTH-06/default.aspx

It’s called Tulsa “International” because at one time they offered flights to Mexico City. That didn’t last long but the name stuck.

Lived in Tulsa for 15 years. Tulsa is the best airport to fly from. Easy to park and TSA is a breeze, even without precheck.

Don’t forget to mention the kids play areas in each terminal and, you probably didn’t know that downstairs they have a “low stim” room for kids with autism or that need a calmer waiting environment!

The more I’ve traveled in the last few years, the more I appreciate our little airport. Easy in and out and short lines (at least for my flights).

It legitimately took me less than 10 mins to get through TSA and to my gate. I love traveling through Tulsa airport because it's not crowded at all.

B+? No TUL gets an A. I get there literally maybe 30mins before my flight. TSA is a breeze I normally just walk right up, there might be 1-2 people in front of me. I get to my terminal and it’s normally time to board. It’s efficient, clean and nice. I feel spoiled before I land at JFK, DFW, ATL or LAX

Tulsa International Airport was named “international” in 1963 because of its customs office that was opened for direct commercial flights to Mexico. It’s a beautiful airport and you will see all kinds of aerospace companies that have offices and maintenance facilities in Tulsa including American Airlines. Tulsa has been an aerospace hub and formally was a communications hub and has always been a petroleum and pipeline hub. thank you for the beautiful videography and the description.

Surprisingly the first commercial international flight out of TUL was in 2026! The customs facility opened in October of ‘25 but they didn’t start flying to Cancun until May of ‘26!

Yeah I used to work at that Lufthansa base. I was in their engine shop. They own that hangar and three more on the general aviation side next to OMNI Air. I definitely didn’t know they were here either until I got recruited for their shop. American also has their biggest maintenance base at TUL. Relatively small airport but some big planes do come in regularly for maintenance! 🛫

You can also get gate passes to see friends/family off or surprise them at the gate for pick up.
