I watched every single episode live(we didn't have the capability to record shows when I was a kid), and many more times since in syndication. It was so impactful that I studied medicine later in college. The episode when Radar came to tell the staff in the operating room about the demise of Henry Blake was jaw dropping. 💔

I watched it, I was in junior high. It was deep. When in college, I met this girl who is now my wife. Her dad was in the army and in Korea for most of the war. A bronze star and two Purple Hearts later, he came home. When dementia came late in his life, his time in the war was one of the few memories he still had, he had not spoken of it most of his life. My wife was the youngest child by nine years and had never really understood the impact of the war. Her dad had adjusted well upon his return home and had three children in the late 50’s/early 60’s. (My wife was born in 69) her dad was always perfect in her eyes and really, he was a great dad and even better grandfather, but the stories he shared his last two years made me wonder how the hell he was able to be one of the most loving people I’ve ever met. My wife by this time late in his life was a psychologist and told me he had repressed it. Miss that guy

One fact tonadd, even though this was the last episode shown, it wasn't the last episode filmed. That honor went to the next to last episode with the time capsule. In fact the scene where they inserts the things on the capsule was the last to be filmed.

I was 10 and watched it with my parents. My dad is a retired, military officer, but back then he was back from Vietnam and in the middle of his career. I remember my mom crying and my dad just not saying much during the finale. I think it hit them both pretty hard. Gotta remember we were only seven years removed from Vietnam.
