@deeploneliness_: One of the hardest lessons in any relationship is realizing that not every difficult conversation is an accusation. Sometimes your partner isn’t trying to tell you that you’re a bad person—they’re trying to tell you how your actions made them feel. When our first response is to explain, justify, or prove why we didn’t mean it that way, we often miss the opportunity to understand the person sitting in front of us. Intent matters, but so does impact. A healthy relationship isn’t built on never making mistakes; it’s built on creating enough emotional safety that both people can bring up hurt without fearing they’ll be met with defensiveness or dismissal. That doesn’t mean accepting blame for things you didn’t do, but it does mean slowing down long enough to ask, “What are they trying to help me understand?” before rushing to protect your pride. The strongest couples aren’t the ones who never get criticized—they’re the ones who can put their egos aside long enough to truly hear each other. Because feeling understood is often the first step toward feeling loved, and sometimes listening with humility repairs more than any perfectly worded apology ever could.

It also depends how they bring up the conversation of hurt. I will always be accountable for my actions but I won’t be disrespected.

I just had a conversation like about this type of thing with my boyfriend the other day.
I told him when we come to each other saying we need to talk. we need to learn to listen and accept how the other person is feeling. don't try to defend ourselves, having a conversation is not meant to be an attack, it is meant for understanding and to help solve issues that have arisen.
